The Anita Among-linked investigation has reportedly led to the detention of two staff members attached to her office by the Uganda People’s Defence Forces. A source familiar with the investigation, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Among’s head of security detail — a senior police officer attached to the Directorate of Counter Terrorism — together with another civilian staff member, are being questioned by operatives from Defence Intelligence and Security, formerly known as CMI, at its Mbuya headquarters. According to the source, the pair are being investigated as part of a wider probe into alleged illicit wealth accumulation linked to the former Speaker, being handled by joint security agencies. On Saturday, security agencies conducted coordinated raids on properties linked to Among over suspected corruption allegations. Officers from the Criminal Investigations Directorate and the UPDF searched her residence in Nakasero and sealed off other properties associated with her in Kololo and Kigo. Investigators are said to be looking into documents and financial records connected to allegations of illicit wealth accumulation, money laundering, abuse of office, and possible breaches of Uganda’s Leadership Code Act.
