In a dramatic escalation of the ongoing corruption investigation involving outgoing Speaker of Parliament Anita Among, joint security forces have sealed off her parliamentary office and that of the Clerk to Parliament, turning the upper floors of the building into an active crime scene.

Early Tuesday morning, detectives from the Police Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), backed by armed security personnel, took full control of both offices. Parliamentary staff arriving for early duties were turned away and ordered to leave the area immediately.

Security was tightened around the Speaker’s wing, with detectives directing all non-essential personnel to keep away from the restricted sections to avoid interference with potential evidence.

The latest development comes less than 48 hours after Ms. Among officially withdrew from the race for Speaker of the 12th Parliament following weeks of mounting pressure from both the executive and the public.

The operation also follows weekend raids carried out by police and the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) at her luxury residences in Nakasero, Kigo, and Ntinda.

During the raids, several high-end assets, including a Rolls-Royce valued at Shs3.6 billion and multiple Range Rovers, were impounded and taken to Naguru Police Headquarters as exhibits. The rapidly unfolding investigation, reportedly sanctioned directly by President Yoweri Museveni, stems from a formal petition submitted to the Inspectorate of Government accusing Ms Among of gross under-declaration of wealth, money laundering, and violations of the Leadership Code Act.

By Tuesday morning, forensic experts and senior investigators were seen entering the sealed offices carrying document cases, suggesting a detailed digital and physical review of parliamentary procurement and financial records.

Although both the Inspectorate of Government and the Police Spokesperson have declined to comment on the specifics of the operation, the developments at Parliament point to a major accountability showdown within the ruling establishment.
