Paul Job Kafeero’s remains were exhumed for DNA testing to determine the biological children entitled to his estate. The remains of legendary Kadongokamu musician Paul Job Kafeero were exhumed on Monday morning following a court order intended to help resolve a long-standing dispute over his estate and lineage. The exercise was conducted to collect bone and tissue samples for DNA testing. The results are expected to establish the biological parentage of several individuals claiming to be children of the late music icon. According to Joseph Luzige, the lawyer representing the children who say they were unfairly left out of the estate, the exercise was financed by outgoing State Minister for Youth and Children Affairs Balaam Barugahara. “Samples from the late Kafeero’s remains will be matched with samples from all the contesting children at the government laboratory on Wednesday,” Luzige said. “This scientific process will finally bring closure to the matter.” Government Chief Pathologist Moses Byaruhanga, who supervised the exhumation, said the exercise was necessary to end years of speculation and family disagreements. “This conclusive test will eliminate any uncertainty regarding the true lineage of Paul Job Kafeero’s children,” Dr. Byaruhanga said.Stella Nantongo, one of Kafeero’s widely recognised children, said the development was emotionally difficult but necessary. “This is the last thing we wanted to happen to our father’s resting place,” Nantongo said. “However, if it is the only way to resolve the issues dividing the family, then it is good that it has been done.” The exhumation attracted a number of local residents, who were kept at a distance by security personnel. While some expressed concern about disturbing the dead, others felt the prolonged dispute over Kafeero’s legacy required a final resolution. The DNA test results are expected to be released next week.
