President Museveni has warned government officials to improve performance and fight corruption, declaring a strict results-driven approach for the next five years focused on accountability, service delivery and economic transformation.

President Yoweri Museveni has announced what he called a new phase of strict accountability in government, warning ministers, MPs and civil servants that corruption, complacency and poor performance will no longer be tolerated.

Speaking at the State of the Nation Address at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds, Museveni said the next five years will focus on discipline, supervision and full implementation of government programmes. He stressed that there would be “no more sleep,” no corruption, and no tolerance for underperformance.

He thanked Ugandans for supporting the NRM but quickly shifted to criticism of government inefficiencies, especially poor road maintenance and weak supervision of projects. He urged leaders to actively monitor service delivery at the grassroots level, warning that those who fail to perform risk being sacked.

Museveni also criticised public officials who prioritise allowances over duty, calling for reduced administrative costs and more practical supervision methods. On the economy, he expressed optimism, citing 6.4% growth and future gains expected from oil production and industrialisation.

He further announced that government will introduce 38 Bills in the new Parliament, including a Light Weapons Control Bill, signaling a focus on security, governance reforms and economic transformation.

By the end of his speech, Museveni emphasized that the new term will be judged by results, not promises, repeatedly stressing urgency in implementation.
