The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has held talks with the leadership of Nation Media Group (NMG) Uganda regarding the continued closure of its media outlets, including NTV Uganda and the Daily Monitor. The meeting, held at the Special Forces Command headquarters in Entebbe, was attended by NMG owner Mr. Rostam Aziz, his son Mr. Saam Aziz, and Ms. Georgia Mutagaywa, Chief of Staff at Taarifa Limited, the parent company of NMG. Veteran journalist and PLU leader Andrew Mwenda, as well as Acting UPDF/Defence Public Information Director Col. Chris Magezi, were also present. The discussions come after security agencies shut down NMG Uganda’s premises on the orders of the CDF, who accused the media house of running a sustained campaign of blackmail against the government and its leadership, while advancing opposition and foreign interests over those of Uganda. During the meeting, participants reviewed examples of what the government described as biased and malicious reporting. NMG’s ownership pledged to pursue a more patriotic, balanced, and objective editorial approach going forward. The engagement forms part of ongoing efforts to resolve the dispute between the government and the media group. Gen. Kainerugaba later announced on his social media platforms that he will submit a formal report on the meeting to the President, whose decision will guide the next steps regarding the possible reopening of the media house.
