Masaka City Woman MP Justine Nameere has reportedly been arrested by plain-clothed operatives and taken to an unknown destination.

Nameere was allegedly picked on Friday at about 8:30pm while heading to Liberation Square in Masaka City, as she was concluding a drive through the city after her swearing-in ceremony in Kampala.

She was in a convoy with supporters when a white Toyota Hiace with concealed number plates is said to have blocked their way. A supporter who requested anonymity said the operatives ordered Nameere out of her Range Rover before taking her away.

“All was going on well; we had moved through the city streets without problems until we were blocked by unknown security personnel along the circular road on our way to Liberation Square in Masaka City,” the supporter said.

“They ordered Ms Nameere out of her vehicle and took her to an unknown place.”

Southern Regional Police Spokesperson Twaha Kasirye said police were not aware of the arrest and were still verifying the incident.

“We are not aware of the said arrest, but we have started investigating what could have happened,” Kasirye said.
