Aston Villa ended a 30-year wait for silverware after defeating SC Freiburg 3-0 in the Europa League final on Wednesday.Goals from Youri Tielemans, Emiliano Buendía, and Morgan Rogers secured the victory as Villa claimed their first major trophy since winning the English League Cup in 1996.

The triumph also marked Villa’s first continental title since lifting the European Cup in 1982 after beating Bayern Munich in the final.Villa coach Unai Emery extended his remarkable Europa League record with a fifth title in the competition, having previously won it three times with Sevilla FC and once with Villarreal CF.

Back-to-back Europa League titles for Premier League clubs, following Tottenham Hotspur’s success last season, also kept alive hopes of an English continental treble, with Arsenal FC set to play in the Champions League final and Crystal Palace FC preparing for the Conference League final.

“I feel amazing,” Tielemans told TNT Sports. “We put in a shift, delivered a top performance, had a great season, and to finish it like this is incredible.”He added: “It’s been a season with a lot of ups and downs. We started badly and our standards were poor, but the way we turned things around was great. Credit to the players and staff because we kept believing.

”Villa broke the deadlock in the 41st minute through a superb strike from Tielemans.

A floated cross from Rogers following a short corner found the unmarked Belgian, whose low volley flew into the net.
