KCCA Issues Fresh Crackdown on Noise Pollution in Kampala

The Kampala Capital City Authority has announced a renewed enforcement campaign against noise pollution across Kampala, warning bars, restaurants, discos, worship centres, DJs, concert organisers, and other businesses to comply with national noise control regulations.

In a public notice dated May 21, 2026, KCCA said individuals and businesses generating excessive noise must follow the National Environment (Noise Standards and Control) Regulations, 2003.

The authority outlined maximum permissible noise levels for different areas during both daytime and nighttime hours, including stricter limits for hospitals, schools, libraries, courts, and residential zones.

KCCA advised businesses to install noise limiters, insulate premises, and reduce excessive sound emissions to avoid enforcement action.Authorities warned that failure to comply could lead to penalties such as fines, prosecution, confiscation of equipment, suspension of operations, or closure of premises.Residents were also encouraged to report noise pollution cases through the KCCA hotline.
