Media personality and YouTuber Isaac Daniel Katende, popularly known as Kasuku, has come under fire over comments he made about the widow of slain rugby player Sydney Gongodyo.

Gongodyo, a 27-year-old forward for the Uganda Rugby Cranes and Stanbic Black Pirates, died on June 5, 2026, after he was allegedly attacked by a mob in Ntinda, Kampala, following accusations of theft. CCTV footage that later emerged reportedly indicated that the rugby star was innocent, sparking public outrage and renewed calls for justice under the hashtag #JusticeForSydney.

As the country continues to mourn his death, a video circulating on social media showed Kasuku making remarks about Gongodyo’s widow that many people considered insensitive and inappropriate given the circumstances.

The comments quickly attracted criticism online, with many accusing the veteran gossip commentator of showing little empathy and shifting attention away from the pursuit of justice for the deceased and support for his grieving family.

Several social media users described the remarks as disrespectful to both Gongodyo’s memory and his widow, while others argued that such comments were inappropriate during a period of national mourning.

However, some of Kasuku’s supporters defended him, saying the remarks were consistent with the style of entertainment and celebrity commentary for which he is known.

By press time, Kasuku had not publicly responded to the criticism or addressed calls from some members of the public demanding an apology.

The controversy comes as Ugandans continue to demand accountability for the events that led to Gongodyo’s death.
