This afternoon, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni officiated at the groundbreaking ceremony for Kidepo International Airport in Karenga District, marking a major step in Uganda’s infrastructure and regional development plans. The President reminded wananchi that Karamoja has come a long way from the days of insecurity, cattle rustling, and lawlessness. He noted that the restoration of peace has created the conditions necessary for meaningful development in the region. The airport is expected to significantly improve access to Kidepo Valley National Park, boosting tourism, attracting investors, creating jobs for young people, and expanding markets for local products. Already, more than 1,600 Ugandans are employed on the project, providing a major boost to local employment during the construction phase. President Museveni also expressed appreciation to partners from Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates for recognizing the vast opportunities available in Uganda and Africa, noting that such partnerships are key to accelerating development. Once completed, the airport is expected to enhance connectivity in Karamoja and further integrate the region into Uganda’s broader economic and tourism network.
