Finance Minister Matia Kasaija’s successor in the ministry spotlight, Henry Musasizi, has come under public focus as Uganda prepares for the 2026/27 national budget. A feature aired on NBS Television highlighted Musasizi’s personal, academic and political journey. Born on February 25, 1981, in Kabale, Musasizi studied Commerce at Makerere University before beginning his career as an accountant with Caritas Kabale Diocese and later AMREF. His political career started in 2011 when he was elected MP for Rubanda East and served on Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee. He later chaired the Parliamentary Finance Committee before being appointed State Minister for Finance (General Duties) from 2021 to 2026. The programme also noted that Musasizi now serves as Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, placing him at the centre of Uganda’s economic agenda. According to the presentation, the 2026/27 budget is expected to focus on commercial agriculture, industrialisation, expansion of services, digital transformation and improving market access as government seeks to drive economic growth.
