13-Year-Old Boy Dies After Allegedly Drinking Crude Alcohol in Napak

Police in Napak District have launched investigations into the death of a 13-year-old boy who allegedly consumed a large quantity of crude alcohol after returning home and finding no food.

The deceased, identified as Aaron Sagal, a resident of Nakayot Village in Iriiri Sub-county, reportedly returned home after grazing animals only to discover there was nothing to eat.

According to residents, the teenager allegedly drank leftover crude alcohol that his mother had kept in the house after selling it, reportedly hoping it would ease his hunger.

A resident, Rose Natee, said the boy’s condition worsened shortly after consuming the alcohol.

“He started vomiting what appeared to be blood before he was rushed for treatment,” Natee said.

The boy was initially taken to Lorengechora Health Centre and later referred to St. Kizito Hospital Matany for specialised treatment. However, he died while being transported to the hospital.

Karamoja Regional Police Spokesperson Mike Longole said officers had been unable to access the scene because heavy rains had made the roads impassable.

“We were unable to access the scene of crime due to impassable terrain following the rainfall. We appeal to anyone with additional information to come forward as investigations continue. We also urge the public to remain calm,” Longole said.

Police said investigations into the circumstances surrounding the boy’s death are ongoing. Authorities have not yet established the exact cause of death, pending the outcome of the investigations.
