Zohran Mamdani attended Eid al-Adha prayers in the Bronx wearing a robe inspired by Arsenal’s away kit colours, showing support for his favourite football club.

In a message shared on X, Mamdani said Eid al-Adha is a reminder that sacrifice is not a burden but a chance to support those in need and stand together in solidarity.

He added that he was honoured to serve as New York City’s first Muslim mayor and remains committed to helping residents afford essentials such as food, housing, and childcare.

The 34-year-old, who is the city’s youngest mayor in over 100 years, was joined by fellow Democratic Socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez at the event. Ocasio-Cortez, a Christian, wore a scarf covering her hair during the prayers.

In a 2025 interview, Mamdani revealed he became an Arsenal fan as a child after being introduced to the club by his uncle.

Born in Kampala, Uganda, he said Arsenal stood out because of its strong African representation, including players like Lauren, Kolo Touré, Nwankwo Kanu, Emmanuel Eboué, and Alex Song.He also praised former Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger for changing the style and identity of English football over the years.
