Wakiso Giants FC have left Ugandan football fans questioning the future of the club after sharing an emotional message that appears to signal the end of a journey that began in 2018. The club, popularly known as the Purple Sharks, posted a reflective statement on social media, describing a path filled with challenges, lessons and unforgettable moments. “Some journeys are measured by the distance covered, others by the lessons carried. Since 2018, the road has been long, the storms many, and the silence often louder than the cheers. Every chapter eventually finds its final page. Till we never meet again.” The message has sparked widespread speculation that the former Uganda Premier League side could be bringing its football operations to an end, although no official confirmation has yet been issued regarding the club’s status. FUFA Big League Final Table Standings The post comes at the end of a disappointing campaign in the FUFA Big League, where Wakiso Giants finished 15th out of 16 teams. The club collected 31 points from 30 matches, winning eight games, drawing seven and losing 15. Their season ended in painful fashion with a heavy 4-0 defeat to Nyange Elephants. Had the club continued its football journey under the current league structure, the poor league position would likely have seen it compete at a lower level next season as it sought a route back to national football. Wakiso Giants rose to prominence after their establishment in 2018, quickly becoming one of the country’s most followed clubs. Their vibrant fan culture, strong social media presence and memorable seasons in the Uganda Premier League helped them build a unique identity within Ugandan football. The club’s management structure, led by president Ssebulime Musa, played a key role in guiding the team through both its successes and struggles. However, recent developments have raised questions about whether the club is preparing for a complete exit, a restructuring process or a transition into a different football project. For many supporters, the emotional farewell message feels like the closing of a significant chapter. From thrilling Premier League nights to difficult battles in the FUFA Big League, Wakiso Giants’ journey has been one marked by ambition, resilience and passionate support. Until official communication is issued, the future of the Purple Sharks remains uncertain. But if the farewell message is indeed the club’s final whistle, Ugandan football may be witnessing the end of one of its most recognizable modern-era clubs.
