Nakisunga Sub-county Councillor-elect Henry Kitatta Naggwano died shortly after being sworn in at Nakisunga Playground, after reportedly being temporarily discharged from hospital to take his oath of office.

Shock and grief have engulfed residents of Nakisunga Sub-county in Mukono District after Councillor-elect Henry Kitatta Naggwano died shortly after taking his oath of office on Friday.

Naggwano, who had been elected on the NRM ticket, was reportedly brought to the swearing-in ceremony at Nakisunga Playground while in a critical condition after spending months on life support following a disputed election period.

According to reports, doctors had temporarily discharged him under strict medical supervision to allow him take the oath of office before returning to hospital for further treatment.

Eyewitnesses said the visibly weak councillor-elect managed to complete the swearing-in ceremony before being rushed back for medical attention. However, news later emerged that he had died before reaching the hospital.

The sudden death left mourners and residents in disbelief, with many describing the moment as emotional and heartbreaking.

Some locals also raised concerns after recalling that the previous person who held the same position reportedly died in a road accident just weeks after being sworn in, fueling fear and speculation among community members.

Leaders and residents have since expressed condolences to Naggwano’s family, describing him as a dedicated leader whose dream of serving the people was cut short moments after officially assuming office.

“Kitalo nnyo,” several mourners were heard saying as news of his death spread across the area.
