Fred Nyanzi has rejected attempts to make him a government witness, arguing that the court case is politically motivated and intended to divide the opposition.

Fred Nyanzi Ssentamu has dismissed efforts to have him testify in an ongoing court case involving the government, describing the proceedings as politically motivated and designed to weaken the opposition.

Speaking on the matter, Nyanzi argued that the case is not aimed at delivering justice but rather at creating divisions within opposition ranks.

“I believe the case brought before court by the government is purely political. By seeking to make me their witness, they want to create suspicion and division within our team, making people think there is betrayal among us,” Nyanzi said.

He insisted that he would not appear in court as a witness, maintaining that no law can compel him to testify against his will. He also expressed concern over what he described as growing political influence over Uganda’s judicial system.

“My concern is that the credibility of our courts is being undermined by political interests. The courts no longer appear impartial, and many of these matters are handled in a one-sided manner,” he said.

Nyanzi further claimed that several applications filed by his party, including one concerning his alleged abduction, have yet to be heard. According to him, the current case is being used to frustrate another petition he has before court by keeping him occupied and under pressure.
