It’s advantage Arsenal F.C. in the Premier League title race after Sunday’s 1-0 win away at West Ham United F.C. restored their five-point lead over Manchester City F.C. City had reduced the gap to two points with a 3-0 victory over Brentford F.C. on Saturday, following their costly 3-3 draw against Everton F.C. in the previous match. But when is the earliest Mikel Arteta’s side could finally end their 22-year wait for the league title? The earliest possible date is Monday, 18 May, when Arsenal host already-relegated Burnley F.C. For that to happen, City would first need to drop points at home to Crystal Palace F.C. on Wednesday, 13 May. A draw would leave City four points behind, while a defeat would put them five points back. If Arsenal then beat Burnley, they would move at least seven points clear with City having only six points left to play for. However, if City defeat Palace and cut the gap back to two points, Arsenal would not be able to seal the title against Burnley. Still, a win would mean City must beat AFC Bournemouth the following evening on Tuesday, 19 May, to keep the title race alive heading into the final day.
