Two security guards are fighting for their lives after armed robbers attacked a Stabex fuel station in Kisoga, Mukono District, during the early hours of Friday morning. The robbery happened at around 3:00am. According to pump attendant Dennis Adia, one of the attackers approached him while armed with a gun and demanded money. Adia said he initially hesitated to hand over the cash collected during the night, prompting the attacker to fire a shot. Fearing for his life, he surrendered the money before the suspect fled. After the attackers escaped, Adia discovered the two guards on duty lying in pools of blood. He also revealed that one of the guards’ firearms was stolen during the raid. Police later visited the scene and recovered several exhibits, including spent cartridges and another firearm. Officers also recovered a company jacket believed to have been used to carry the stolen money, abandoned a few metres away from the fuel station. Adia said the attackers escaped with about Shs350,000 collected overnight. Another pump attendant, Shaban Mukalazi, said he first heard gunshots before coming face-to-face with an armed man demanding money. This marks the third attack on the filling station in the last two years. Previous raids have also left workers injured and money stolen. Brian Senkumba, a survivor of a similar attack last year that left him blind in one eye, said the attackers appear highly skilled in using firearms. He noted that three bullets were fired during the latest incident and questioned why the attacks continue despite changes in the company providing security services. “Our bosses have changed security companies, but the attacks keep happening,” Senkumba said. The injured guards were rushed to Herona Hospital for first aid before being referred to Mulago National Referral Hospital for specialised treatment.Dr Isaac Mukula, a medic at Herona Hospital, confirmed that the victims were stabilised before being transferred. Police from Mukono responded with a sniffer dog, but it failed to trace the suspects. Sources say a firearm stolen during a similar attack last year was later recovered from nearby bushes. Fuel stations along the Mukono–Katosi–Nyenga Road have increasingly become targets for armed robberies in recent years.
