Police in the Mt Moroto region are investigating the killing of one of their officers in a mob attack in Nakapiripirit District on Tuesday evening.

The deceased, identified as Richard Nokrach, 31, was attached to Namalu Police Station, according to Mt Moroto police spokesperson Mike Longole. The incident happened at Nalait Trading Centre in Loporet Parish, Kawach Sub-county, around 7:00pm.

Preliminary reports indicate that Nokrach was returning from the Moru-A-Jore Game Reserve checkpoint when he allegedly knocked down an elderly man at the trading centre. It is reported that relatives of the injured man later attacked him and stabbed him several times in the chest, back, and neck, leading to his death at the scene.

The case was reported at Nakapiripirit Central Police Station at about 1900hrs and registered under CRB 064/2026.

Following the report, the District Police Commander, CID officers, SOCO team, and other personnel visited the scene. Witness statements have been recorded, and the body was taken to Mbale Regional Referral Hospital for postmortem examination. Two male suspects have since been arrested and are in custody at Nakapiripirit CPS as investigations continue.

Police condemned the act of mob justice and urged the public to always report incidents to authorities and allow the law to handle such matters instead of taking matters into their own hands.
