Police Recover Body of Kidnapped Ntinda Woman in Wakiso

Police have recovered the decomposing body of a woman who was abducted from her home in Kigowa, Ntinda, in Kampala last Thursday. The deceased has been identified as 52-year-old Lydia Babirye.

Reports indicate that the kidnappers used Babirye’s mobile phone to demand a ransom of Shs 19 million from her family.

After the family reported her disappearance at Old Kampala Police Station, police launched investigations and a search operation to trace both the victim and the suspects. Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed on Sunday that security teams acted quickly, leading to the arrest of two suspects and the discovery of the body.

He stated that during interrogation, one of the suspects led officers to a residence in Kiteredde Village, Kakiri Town Council, Wakiso District, where the body was found. It had been wrapped in a mattress cover and tied with ropes, and was already in a decomposed state inside the house.

Investigators also reportedly found a freshly dug grave within the same compound, believed to have been prepared for the burial of the victim.

The scene was processed and documented, and the body was taken to the KCCA City Mortuary for postmortem examination.

Police say the suspects remain in custody as investigations continue, while the motive for the killing is still under inquiry.
