Four original television series based on the Fast & Furious franchise are currently in development, star Vin Diesel announced on Monday during NBC Universal’s presentation in New York at Radio City Music Hall. Diesel shared the announcement onstage alongside Jimmy Fallon. The Babylon actor explained that he was once reluctant to continue making sequels for the franchise because he feared it could stop the original film from ever being regarded as a classic. That concern has now faded. This Wednesday, the Cannes Film Festival will celebrate the franchise’s 25th anniversary with a special midnight screening, recognizing it as a cinematic classic. Diesel is expected to attend the screening alongside several co-stars from the films. The franchise’s expansion goes beyond movies, with a new “Fast & Furious” roller coaster set to open at Universal Studios Hollywood this summer, while another attraction is planned for Universal Orlando Resort. “The news we have here today is that Peacock is launching four shows from the ‘Fast & Furious’ universe,” Diesel revealed, though he did not share additional details about the projects. The actor also praised Donna Langley, chairman of NBC Universal Entertainment & Studios and chief content officer, for helping make the expansion possible.“ I had to wait until it was right,” Diesel said. “ It became right when Donna Langley started to oversee it all. That’s when I knew the integrity of the characters, the international appeal, and what makes us all feel like family would be protected in the TV space.” The final Fast & Furious movie is scheduled to premiere on March 17, 2028.
