A joint team of elite security agencies has widened its operations targeting properties linked to outgoing Speaker of Parliament Anita Among, conducting intensive searches at her residences in Kigo, a wealthy lakeside suburb in Wakiso District, and Ntinda in Kampala. The coordinated raids followed a heavily guarded security operation at her Nakasero residence in Kampala, signaling an expanding state crackdown. The operation, which began on Saturday, involves detectives from the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), personnel from the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), and other intelligence agencies. Security operatives sealed off the upscale Ntinda property and the Kigo lakeside residence, restricting movement in and out of the premises. The multi-agency deployment comes amid a growing investigation into alleged corruption, money laundering, and unlawful accumulation of wealth. Highly placed sources say the joint CID-UPDF team is seeking financial records, asset declarations, and procurement documents linked to the Bukedea Woman MP’s tenure as head of Parliament. The scrutiny intensified following a public petition to Inspector General of Government Aisha Batala Naluzze concerning Among’s wealth declaration. Public concern had increased over the former Speaker’s luxury purchases, including a Rolls-Royce Cullinan. Security agencies are also reportedly investigating wider political and operational networks, including multi-million-shilling transactions involving parliamentary officials and regional mobilisers. Witnesses at both residences described a tense atmosphere as armed operatives maintained tight security around the properties. The Kigo search further broadened the scope of the operation, with investigators focusing on properties reportedly being prepared ahead of the new parliamentary term. The raids came just days after newly elected legislators, including Among, were sworn in for the 12th Parliament, and ahead of the scheduled Speaker of Parliament election on May 25. Political pressure on Among has grown following the withdrawal of support from key political groups, with public backing increasingly shifting toward Budama West Central MP Jacob Marksons Oboth, commonly known as Jacob Oboth-Oboth. As forensic teams and military intelligence officers continue examining documents and items recovered from the Nakasero and Kigo residences, sources indicate that investigators plan to extend the search to her parliamentary offices and country home in Bukedea District. Officials say court proceedings are expected once investigators complete their case files.
