Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes has been named Premier League Player of the Season on Saturday after playing a key role in guiding his side to third place and securing Champions League qualification. Fernandes matched the league’s all-time assists record of 20, previously set by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne, with one game still remaining in the season. The Portugal international also contributed eight goals as United finished strongly to seal a third-place finish. He was shortlisted alongside Arsenal defenders Gabriel, David Raya and Declan Rice, Manchester City striker Erling Haaland, Antoine Semenyo, Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White, and Brentford forward Igor Thiago. Fernandes stood out as the league’s top creator, producing 132 chances this season, ahead of Liverpool’s Dominik Szoboszlai, who created 89. The 31-year-old had already been named Football Writers’ Association Men’s Player of the Year earlier this month and also won Manchester United’s Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award for a record fifth time. He now has a chance to break the Premier League assists record outright when United face Brighton & Hove Albion in their final match of the season. Post navigation DID YOU KNOW?
