The NRM Parliamentary Caucus has elected Stella Kiryowa and Fred Bangimya as the party’s flag bearers for the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) following a closely contested internal election held on Tuesday evening at the Office of the President.

The duo will now await Parliament’s approval before taking up the vacant EALA seats left by James Kakooza and Denis Namara, who resigned after being elected to Uganda’s 12th Parliament.

During the same sitting, the caucus also elected a new executive to lead its internal affairs for the new parliamentary term. Isaac Otimgiw was elected Vice Chairperson, Brenda Namukuta became General Secretary, Grania Hope Nakazibwe was elected Treasurer, and Derrick Orone was elected Publicity Secretary.

The elections mark a key step in strengthening the NRM’s representation in both Parliament and the East African Legislative Assembly as the 12th Parliament begins its work.

The EALA by-election was conducted to fill the vacancies created by the resignations of James Kakooza and Denis Namara. Before being elected as the party’s flag bearer, Stella Kiryowa served in the Office of the President.
