Erling Haaland struck in the second half to secure a 1-0 victory for 10-man Manchester City over bitter rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday. The goal was initially ruled out for offside but was later awarded following a VAR review. City were reduced to 10 men midway through the first half when Phil Foden was shown a red card for kicking out at Bruno Fernandes while on the ground. United hit the woodwork twice, with Marcus Rashford and Kobbie Mainoo going close on either side of half-time as they looked to capitalise on their numerical advantage. However, the momentum shifted around the hour mark when Haaland calmly finished from a tight angle. Although the goal was initially disallowed for offside, VAR overturned the decision after replays showed Patrick Dorgu’s outstretched foot had kept the Norwegian forward onside. The victory lifts City to second place with 12 points from four matches, level on points with league leaders Arsenal but behind on goal difference. United remain 13th with four points from their opening four games. Discover more from 303 News Subscribe to get the latest posts sent to your email.
