The latest payout also significantly exceeds the previous record of 15%, which was declared for the 2017/18 financial year under former NSSF Managing Director Richard Byarugaba.

NSSF’s interest rate had dropped to 9.65% in the 2021/22 financial year before rising to 10% in 2022/23, 11.5% in 2023/24, and 13.5% in 2024/25. The historic declaration follows a strong financial performance by the Fund.

NSSF reported that assets under management grew from approximately Shs26 trillion to Shs32.8 trillion, while member contributions increased to Shs2.42 trillion during the 2025/26 financial year.

The Fund had earlier announced total income of about Shs6.5 trillion, marking an 85% rise compared to the previous financial year.

The 22.53% interest rate means NSSF members will enjoy a significant increase in the value of their savings, with the exact amount credited depending on each member’s qualifying balance.
