The king of this competition, Unai Emery, has lifted the trophy for a fifth time, sparking wild celebrations among Aston Villa fans both inside Besiktas Stadium and back home in England.

Villa supporters had waited 44 years to witness their club in another European final, and the stunning first-half strikes from Youri Tielemans and Emiliano Buendía perfectly matched the occasion.

Tielemans opened the scoring in spectacular fashion, volleying home Morgan Rogers’ cross with brilliant technique as the ball flew into the bottom corner. Moments later, Buendía doubled the lead with a beautiful curling effort from outside the box that sailed into the top corner.

SC Freiburg were left stunned. After a quiet opening 41 minutes with few chances, Villa suddenly exploded into life. Rogers added a third in the 58th minute, sliding in Buendía’s delivery at the near post to seal a dominant victory engineered by Emery.Villa could easily have scored more.

Amadou Onana headed John McGinn’s corner against the post, while Buendía later fired into the side-netting after another superb pass from Tielemans.

From the moment Villa took the lead, there was never any doubt about the outcome. Captain McGinn controlled the midfield throughout, while Freiburg struggled to create meaningful chances. Even when Johan Manzambi found space for a close-range header, Emiliano Martínez produced an outstanding save before the offside flag was raised.

It was a magnificent display and the perfect ending to an unforgettable season for Aston Villa. Alongside securing a top-five Premier League finish and qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League, Villa now add a European trophy to their achievements. For Emery, it is yet another triumph in the competition he has made his own, and further proof of the remarkable transformation he has overseen at Aston Villa over the past three and a half years.

This latest success ensures the current Villa squad will forever stand alongside the club’s legendary 1982 European Cup winners in Aston Villa history.
