Canada substitute Cyle Larin scored a crucial equaliser to rescue a point for his side in a thrilling 1-1 draw against Bosnia and Herzegovina in their Group B opener on Friday.

Bosnia took the lead in the 21st minute when Jovo Lukic guided home a flick-on from a corner to score his first international goal. Canada responded strongly and came close to levelling in the 53rd minute, but Richie Laryea was denied when Sead Kolasinac produced a remarkable clearance off the crossbar.

The co-hosts continued to press forward and created numerous chances, but struggled to convert their opportunities as Bosnia defended resolutely and looked set to secure all three points.

However, Larin changed the game after coming on in the 76th minute. Less than three minutes later, the striker turned sharply inside the box and fired in a deflected effort to bring Canada level and spark celebrations among the home supporters.

The equaliser ensured Canada began their World Cup campaign with a hard-earned point after a determined second-half comeback.
