Anthony Gordon says joining Barcelona is the fulfilment of a dream he has held since childhood after completing a move from Newcastle United worth more than €80 million (£69.3m).

The England forward, 25, has signed a contract with the La Liga champions until 2031 after both clubs reached an agreement following advanced talks earlier this week, despite interest from Bayern Munich.

Speaking in Spanish during his presentation at the Spotify Nou Camp on Friday, Gordon revealed he had always believed he would one day play for Barcelona.

“I’ve wanted to play for Barca since I was three years old,” he said. “I learned Spanish because, as a child, I believed I would play for Barcelona. I even told my physio in Newcastle that one day I would play for Barca, so I wanted to be ready.”

Gordon said he only became aware of Barcelona’s interest late in the process, but once he knew the club was serious, there was no hesitation.

“Barca are the biggest club in the world. It’s something I dreamed about as a child,” he added.

Although Gordon completed his medical on Thursday and was scheduled to be unveiled on Friday afternoon, delays in paperwork meant he had to wait nearly eight hours before the official presentation.

Despite the delay, the winger remained calm and confident the move would be completed.

“I knew it would happen. Everything on my side was done. The delay was due to legal matters and small details beyond my control,” he said.

Gordon also acknowledged the club’s rich history and expressed his determination to succeed.

“I understand the history of this club and the great players who have worn this shirt. I’m ready for the challenge and hungry to win here.”

He will join the England squad for a training camp in the United States on Monday ahead of the World Cup, which begins on June 11.

Gordon links up at Barcelona with fellow England international Marcus Rashford, although the Spanish club have yet to activate the option to make Rashford’s loan move from Manchester United permanent in a deal worth £26 million.
